kickstarter and sochi 2014
Some more funding over here at kickstarter it is just big fun to see all the projects and the diversity on this funding site. Recently i came across Rob Hornstra’s the sochi project. His journalistic project about Sochi (Olympic games in 2014) is a example of so called slow journalism, a kind of journalism wich is hard to finance these days. Papers and magazines dont have the budget for a story on that scale and for such a long time. So Rob (photographer) and Arnold van Bruggen (journalist) came up with the idea of memberships (bronze. silver and gold) and finance their project in this manner. I think they offer quite a lot for their membership prizes so I got my self a silver membership.

making movies is expensive and getting in touch with producing companies is difficult, but besides making a “dogma” movie the other option is getting your own funding done on the internet.
“IndieGoGo is an online social marketplace connecting filmmakers and fans to make independent film happen. The platform provides filmmakers the tools for project funding, recruiting, and promotion, while enabling the audience to discover and connect directly with filmmakers and the causes they support.
Founded on the principles of opportunity, transparency, choice, and action, IndieGoGo launched in 2008 to address the fundraising challenges and market inefficiencies affecting independent filmmaking today. IndieGoGo enables this “filmocracy” by providing filmmakers an open platform to pitch their projects to the world, and giving the fans a vehicle to experience and influence the once inaccessible world of filmmaking.
Filmmakers get new resources to build and engage a loyal fan base to assist in making their projects happen. Filmmakers can raise money and awareness, find cast and crew, and gain credibility through the help of their number one resource: their fans.
Fans get the opportunity to discover and impact the films of tomorrow while getting insider access and VIP perks for their contributions. But beyond the VIP perks, fans get an everyday opportunity to support the people, films, or causes they believe in.”

good people saying good things
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader
“Our mission: Spreading ideas. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. This site, launched April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and you’re an important part of it. Have an idea? We want to hear from you. Today, TED is therefore best thought of as a global community. It’s a community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who have just two things in common: they seek a deeper understanding of the world, and they hope to turn that understanding into a better future for us all.”
It ranges from a breath catching swiss comedian who wants to tidy up the arts to a atheist calling to arms. All funny and serious people.
So many words, it did start Maria Popova to do something with these words. TEDify is the brain child of Maria Popova, a relentless and voracious TED fan who, after seeing every talk publicly available and then some, arrived at a curious epiphany: TED has a voice.
